Where does visual inspiration originate?

What are the sources of a visual idea?  Sometimes, the starkness of winter - replete with its visual contrasts of, in this instance, a leafless tree against a gray sky and a backdrop of new snow - provides a spark to the visual imagination.  Though the tree photographed on the left was taken well after the event pictured on the right (a private reception at the Metropolitan Museum of Art), memories of recent winters informed our choices to create the visual tableau serving as a dramatic backdrop to the intimate guest setting within the Velez Blanco Patio gallery of the museum.

Inspiration has many sources - sometimes found by simply walking through the park.
